Adie syndrome, or Holmes-Adie syndrome, is a rare neurological disorder affecting the pupil of the eye. In most patients the pupil is larger than normal dilated and slow to react in response to direct light. Absent or poor tendon reflexes are also associated with this disorder. In most individuals, the cause is unknown idiopathicbut Adie syndrome can occur as due to other conditions such as trauma, surgery, lack of blood flow ischemia or infection.
It is important to remember that facial nerve tumours are extremely rare; they can be mistaken for tumours that grow on the acoustic nerve called vestibular schwannomas. The most common types of tumours or growths forming on the facial nerve are schwannomas and haemangiomas. Facial nerve tumours are almost always benign, which means they are not cancerous; however there is the very low possibility of a metastatic deposit of another malignant tumour along the facial nerve spread of an existing cancerous disease.
